- House fire: smoke + CO alarms in every sleeping area (test monthly, £15 each), fire extinguisher in kitchen + garage (£25, learn PASS: Pull-Aim-Squeeze-Sweep), fire blanket by the stove, agreed 2-exit plan per room + outside meeting point, drill it twice a year with the kids at night. Close bedroom doors at night — it buys minutes.
- Falls/DIY: ladders and chainsaws injure more preppers than anything apocalyptic. Gloves, eye pro, never work tired/alone on dangerous jobs.
- Water: every child swims — that's a survival skill, not a hobby. Life jackets for any boat/flood scenario.
- Health base rate: blood pressure, dental, eyesight (spare glasses in every kit!), vaccinations current (tetanus especially — you WILL cut yourself on rusty things in a crisis).
Everyday threats
The real risks are house fires, carbon monoxide, falls and car crashes, not raiders.
