100% plant ID or don't use it. Several medicinal plants have lethal lookalikes (e.g. yarrow vs. poison hemlock, elder vs. pokeweed, pine vs. YEW — yew needles can kill). Cross-check 3+ features (leaf, stem, smell, habitat) against a regional field guide with photos.
CAUTION
Skin-test everything new: rub on inner forearm, wait 24 h before larger use. Allergies to plants (especially the daisy family — chamomile, yarrow, calendula) are common.
CAUTION
Extra caution: pregnancy, children, blood thinners (willow, garlic in quantity), liver conditions, and anyone on prescription meds — herbs interact.
Dirty wound beats no herb every time: irrigation with clean water + soap is 90% of wound care. Herbs are the supporting act.
SEEK REAL CARE
Know the "this needs real medicine" signs: spreading redness/red streaks from a wound, pus + fever, deep punctures, animal bites, wounds that won't close, bloody diarrhoea, fever over ~39.5 °C. These are antibiotic/hospital problems — burn your stored favours to reach real care.
